The Babadook was easily the best horror movie of 2014, and possibly the best horror movie of the last 5years. So it should come as no surprise that the folks over at ‘Funny or Die’ have knocked up a faux interview with the Babadook himself Continue reading
Over the weekend I watched ‘Mama’ which is produced by Guillermo Del Toro, and was amazed at the work he manages to get out of younger and newer directors when focuses on a genre he knows well- Ghost stories. This made me a nostalgic for some of Del Toro’s earlier work and the first film that came to mind as a complete work of brilliance was ‘The Devils Backbone’ so it’s this weeks recommendation. There seems to be a host of new information hitting the internet almost daily about Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a lot of it has to do with the casting of new characters that will expand the universe (see my thoughts on that here) However there has been some substantial news that relates to characters we already know about, so let’s get it rolling. With it being the Legendary directors birthday just over a week ago- I was tempted to run a post about his best movies but then had real difficulty narrowing it down and deciding what to go with. New footage this morning from the latest X-Men movie ‘Days of Future Past’ can be seen below. However with this and the multitude of other teasers an short length footage that has been released it almost feels like their wont be anything new to see when the movie gets its release- but im still looking forward to this.
Its the beginning of the week again, so its time for another weekly recommendation, and this time it comes from the wonderfully bizarre and imaginative mind of Guillermo Del Toro in the form of his sixth movie Pan’s Labyrinth. This is easily the most critically acclaimed of all of Del Toro’s work managing to even win 3Academy Awards and a BAFTA, and there’s a very good reason for this.
Well that’s currently a rumour- but if the internet is to believed he has met with both George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy over lunch. If it wasnt to discuss the upcoming sequel then i have no idea what it could of been- so consider me claiming it must have been.
Now while a villain that matches Darth Vaders coolness is going to be hard to find for the upcoming movies, just like it was for the prequels (Darth Maul was wasted) casting Daniel Day Lewis would be a great step to achieving that. Hell if they can make this happen- it will instantly add credibility to the upcoming franchise continuation.
In other related casting news Saorise Ronan has confirmed that she has carried out a screen test/audition for the movie and its hinted at that Sullivan Stapleton (300 sequel) may be up for a role too. ut compared to the DDL rumour who cares
