Wednesday is right around the corner and with it comes a heavy comic book release week- and all that means is there’s more goodness for the reading but that keeping the costs down can be tricky. So withe that in mind here are my top picks from this weeks new releases.
I Hate Fairyland #13
Official Synopsis: “LARRY’S LIFE”
Find out what Larry’s life could have been like if he had never met Gert.
Why it’s a Pick: Skottie Young never fails to deliver an totally entertaining and crazy read with ‘I Hate Fairyland’ and one of the best characters is Larry and his undying servitude to Gert- despite thinking she’s a monster. So to see how his life could have been- this is bound to be a fun ride and slightly heartbreaking if you love Larry too. Either way this will maintain the fun and entertainment of the series and that has to be a good thing.
Star Wars: Darth Vader #2
Official Synopsis: The most fearsome villain of all time returns with an all-new series! When Anakin Skywalker fell, both to the pull of the dark side and to the blade of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he rose back up, more machine than man. Having lost everything that was once dear to him, the former chosen one must take his first steps into a darker world…as Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith! Join Vader as he learns a new way — the way of Darth Sidious and his newly formed Empire…the way of the dark side.
Why it’s a Pick: The first issue was much more about Palpatine than I expected- but that wasn’t a bad thing as it gave Vaders service to him some more context after his failed promise to save Padme. However towards the end of the issue we got to see the action that was expected as Vader takes his first real action as the new him- and it didn’t disappoint. I’m expecting more of this action this issue, and that’s reason enough alone to buy this book!
Darth Maul #4 (of 5)
Official Synopsis: • Darth Maul and his crew of bounty hunters have captured Eldra, the hunted Jedi Padawan! But Xev Xrexus will not give up her prize without a fight. There’s a new bounty out…and the reward for whoever defeats Maul and captures the Padawan is worth dying for.
Not to mention, Eldra isn’t leaving without a fight, either…
Why it’s a Pick: Darth Maul has been one of the best Star Wars characters since the ‘Clone Wars’ re-introduced him and this series has helped to show why- with his hatred towards the Jedi and his quest for revenge leading to a level of insane Sith violence. However the story has remained fairly localised as he aims to kill the padawan to test himself before taking on more Jedi- all without his master knowing. This is Sith planning, betrayal and fighting at its best. Ohh yeah and we get to see more of Cad Bane and Aurrura Sing so buy this book- NOW!
Book of the Week
Despite some top titles ‘I Hate Fairyland’ is easily the best book out there this week, and deserves to be read by anyone and everyone. Skottie Young has created a truly enjoyable and insane world here that I simply cant get enough of visiting, making every issue feel like a true treat.
