This weeks new releases are nearly here, and there is a ton of new titles and a host of low number issues for ‘newer’ titles hitting the shelves- but whats really worth your cold hard cash? Well here are my top picks for the week.
Official Synopsis: What is the Cold House?
Why it’s a Pick: Injection has been a brilliantly written piece of science fiction that keeps adding new layers of intrigue and story to create a very intricate and complicated tale of life being altered by an artificial intelligence through the influence of magic and science. And with it being written by Warren Ellis, it’s just as insane as this sounds and the characters are all unique and completely lovable. If you like high level science fiction and love a good mystery book, then this is the title for you and you should already be reading this.
Star Wars: Darth Vader #1
Official Synopsis: The most fearsome villain of all time returns with an all-new series! When Anakin Skywalker fell, both to the pull of the dark side and to the blade of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he rose back up, more machine than man. Having lost everything that was once dear to him, the former chosen one must take his first steps into a darker world…as Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith! Join Vader as he learns a new way — the way of Darth Sidious and his newly formed Empire…the way of the dark side.
Why it’s a Pick: Darth Vader was one of the best Star Wars series that Marvel has released, and I’m not going to lie about how saddened I was when it finished so seeing it come back is great. I know its set at a different time following Vader after his immediate creation, but the chance to see these tales with Vader as the lead character is too much to pass up. Charles Soule does a great job at leading stories, and I trust him to give us an impressive tale here with Vader at the fore front of the newly created Empire!
Official Synopsis: Sadie Ritter is sixteen years old, nine months pregnant, and scared out of her sweet nerdy mind. Having a baby that young is tough, but with the support of her loving family behind her, everything should be okay. OH YEAH, and also her baby is the antichrist and it’s going to break open the barriers between the earthly and demonic planes and unleash eternal suffering to all of humankind. Other than that, though…should be fine. From the writer of Buzzkill, Paybacks, Redneck and the break-out hit God Country comes a pulse-pounding new series with art from THE REVISIONIST’s Garry Brown!
Why it’s a Pick: Donny Coates has been on a roll lately with the high level of books he’s been putting out there, and I fully expect another creative owned title from him to be just as good. The story sounds creepy as hell, but at the same time highly intriguing- I mean whats going to happen to the baby? Will it manifest powers before it grows? Who’s going to come after the child and with what force once they realise? These are all questions that i trust Coates to give us great answers too, and if you want to add any new title to your pull list this week- it should be this!
Book of the Week
There’s no way it wasn’t going to be Darth Vader this week I’m afraid- the promise of more Vader led stories is just too much to overlook for this Star Wars fan. Ohh yeah and his badass killing began here in the comics books and novels long before Rogue One’s amazing ending scene!
