Comic Book Picks 14th May’17

This weeks new releases are about to arrive- and with them comes a host of top tier titles and some new number ones, but in a busy week what’s worth your hard earned cash? Well here are my top picks for this weeks must buys!

Power Puff Girls: Time Tie #1

Official Synopsis: Mojo Jojo has decided that because he can never destroy the Powerpuff Girls, he’ll do the next best thing: zap them into another time!!! He uses his patented “Time Tie” to blast the three little heroes back into three separate eras in the past. Can the girls find their way back to the present before Mojo can fulfill his mission: The complete destruction of Townsville!

Why it’s a Pick: This is more of a pick in our house for my daughter- who is really getting into comic book; no surprise. And as she already has a love for DC Superhero Girls and Pokemon books, and has developed an interest in the Powerpuff Girls television show this seems like a good win here. This should be a great book to get kids into comic books, and that the real reason it makes my list- not because I’m really looking forward to this but because of how much my daughter is looking forward to reading this, and children being encouraged to read can never be underestimated.

Seven to Eternity #6

Official Synopsis: There is a beautiful place where no one ever dies…

Why it’s a Pick: This title has been superb, the only downside has been the long wait between issues. However with the way the story has been moving and the fact were waiting to see if hearing the ‘Whisper’ has any effect on the decisions made is just too much anticipation. This book really deserves to be read by everyone as Remender is doing some more amazing world creation work and if you don’t believe me just check out the ‘Piper’ from this series.

I Am Groot #1

Official Synopsis: When the Guardians of the Galaxy get caught in a wormhole, a smaller-than-normal Groot is separated billions of light-years away from the team. Falling to a planet below, Groot discovers he is on an entirely alien and unknown world full of strange creatures and societies. Seriously underdeveloped and with nobody who can understand him, Groot will need to make the journey to the center of this world and find the way back to his family!

Why it’s a Pick: Guardians of the Galaxy are on fire right now (as always) and the new solo series for Groot seems set to be absolutely no different. This should be a great read with some really interesting artwork and story elements- my only concern is how long Marvel will continue to push this series before they give up hope and move onto the next relaunch!

Book of the Week

This title has been far too good- and has been too long coming for this issue so there is no way anything else was going to be taking the book of the week. Remender has been creating a truly brilliant world with some unique and amazing characters and that’s only been helped by Opena and the amazing artwork he does.
