Last week saw a host of top titles released and as a result this week is much slower but still sees a large number of titles. With that in mind lets take a look at what is worth your cash this week.
Darth Maul #1
Official Synopsis: Bred on hate, fear, and anger…steeped in the ways of darkness…and trained to kill. Darth Maul’s time as apprentice to Darth Sidious has long been cloaked in shadows, but at last we will reveal his tale of revenge. From writer Cullen Bunn (DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, WOLVERINE) and artist Luke Ross (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, HERCULES) comes a tale of rage unleashed as Darth Maul prepares for his first encounter with the Jedi.
Why it’s a Pick: I’ll be honest I was dubious when Marvel got the Star Wars liscence but they have proven to only do great titles. And if the villain led Darth Vader is any example of the promise for this book consider me utterly excited. Maul has always been my favourite Sith (Controversial I know) from the moment he appeared in ‘Phantom Menance’ to his re-appearance in the ‘Clone Wars’ series- and seeing him get his own title should only help elevate him as a must see/read character.
Star Wars #28
Official Synopsis: • Master Yoda finds himself overpowered and captured!
• Imprisoned within the caves, the master must become a student once more.
• Plus…Ben and Luke feel the ripples of the Jedi Master’s tale!
Why it’s a Pick: As above the Star Wars books at Marvel are the best franchised titles that get released- and the main title is no exception as its fills an already well established and loved world with some brilliant new tales and the current crop featuring master Yoda have been very fun to read- and seeing Yoda on missions is a real exciting trip. This promises to be no different and with Aaron still at the helm the story to go with the action should be engrossing.
Moon Knight #11
Official Synopsis: RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
• The asylum wasn’t the first institution Marc Spector escaped, or the first that rejected him.
• Is MOON KNIGHT stronger alone, or more vulnerable?
• Trapped outside of reality, his survival depends on answers in his past!
Why it’s a Pick: Moon Knight has been a blast- the story has been framed oddly enough to keep you guessing as to what is going on (without being utter insane) and the focus on the sanity or lack thereof for Spector has been a great way to tell the tales. This book has also managed to break away from thwe standard Marvel look (As I wrote about here) and this is only a good thing. This book has been a real sleeper hit and I don’t see that changing.
Book of the Week
Nothing is taking Maul out of the top spot this week- this book has me so excited I cant explain it. The talent working on this title truly delivered on the Darth Vader title and I see no reason for this to change with a potentially more exciting villain on their hands.
