Comic Book Picks’17

Wednesday is just around the corner, and that means that not only does the Flash (Tv Show) return to television, or atleast my streaming service her in the UK- but it’s also new comic book day. This is a win win week with some big books hitting the shelves, and without any further ado here are my top choices for this week

All Star Batman #6

Official Synopsis: “Cold to the Core”! Batman travels to Alaska to confront Mr. Freeze as he attempts to extract the world’s oldest ice core and bring humanity to a new Ice Age! Powerhouse artist Jock joins Scott Snyder to bring you another of the Dark Knight’s rogues like you’ve never seen him before.

Why it’s a Pick: This title has been brilliant so far, and the ending to the Two-Face story-line was utterly brilliant. Given that I’m expecting great things from Snyder on this with Mr Freeze as I can still remember his first take on Freeze from the Batman Annual #1,m which gave us an utter coldblooded (pun intended) killer within Arkham that was an utter joy to behold. This should be an exciting issue, and the return of Jock to Batman only makes this book better.

God Country #1

Official Synopsis: Emmet Quinlan, an old widower rattled by dementia, isn’t just a problem for his children—his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home—as well as the surrounding West Texas town—a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. The enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body, however.

He’s now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State…

Why it’s a Pick: This is a new series that I know very little about, however he synopsis has me hooked. Maybe I’m a sucker for fantasy and science fiction books, but the synopsis alone sounds like a book that has a host of exciting and utterly brilliant combat moments coming along with some enticing demons and villains making there way onto the pages. Add to this that Image Comics are currently putting out wonderful creator owned issue ones and this should be worth the expenditure this week- lets be honest is $2.99 a bad amount to lose if this doesn’t work out? No, but if it does it may be a small amount very well spent!

Mighty Thor #15

Official Synopsis: THE “ASGARD/SHI’AR WAR” STARTS HERE! As Malekith’s campaign to conquer the Ten Realms rages on, Thor and her League of Heroes lead the charge against the Dark Elf’s forces. But far across the galaxy, another conflict is brewing and the most powerful super-army in the cosmos is preparing a surprise attack on the city of the gods. The Shi’ar Empire will lay siege to Asgardia. Their target: the Goddess of Thunder.

Why it’s a Pick: Malekiths current war to own the nine realms has been superb, and watching this step it up a few notches can only make the story-line better and if this is the issue that does that then I’m all for it. Jane Foster as Thor has been engrossing and a more than worthy successor to Odinson, and watching her deal with such a big issue has been brilliantly written and is her first massive test- one of which I’m more than happy to follow along with.

Book of the Week

This is easily my most anticipated book of the week- and with Snyder at the helm and Jock on the artwork featuring Freeze there is nothing to keep me away from this book tomorrow as soon as it hits! This should be Batman at his finest.
