Comic Book Picks 2November ’16

This Wednesday sees a host of titles hitting your local comic book shop shelves, but lets be honest not everything out there is as good as it should be- and that includes the supposed big two right now! So here’s my picks for the best books of the week to get your hands on….

Unworthy Thor #1

Official Synopsis: Odinson’s desperate search to regain his worthiness has taken him out into the cosmos, where he’s learned of the existence of a mysterious other Mjolnir. This weapon of unimaginable power, a relic from a dead universe, is the key to Odinson’s redemption – but some of the greatest villains of the Marvel Universe are now anxious to get their hands on it as well. Can The Odinson reclaim his honor, or will the power of thunder be wielded for evil? The quest for the hammer begins here.

Why its a Pick: It’s been a long while since we saw the Odinson in the Marvel universe, and I for one am excited to see where this goes. There was never an issue for me with having two Thors (I’m loving Jane Foster right now) so seeing how this plays out could be very exciting- but the real question will be is Odinson Worthy for this version of Mjolnir or not?

Rise of the Black Flame #3

Official Synopsis: In an ancient temple lost deep in the jungle, the heroes find proof of the rumoured human sacrifices and answers about the Cult of the Black Flame

Why its a Pick: This series has been on Fire (pun intended) since the launch and Mignola has a brilliant way of crating stories that makes them seem immense in scope and detail while at the same time have great pacing and character work- and this series is no exception. This back story to a well know Mignola Cult is intriguing and brilliant in equal measure- read it now!

Batman #10

Official Synopsis: “I am Suicide” part two! Batman now has his team, but are they ready for the most dangerous mission of their lives? As the Dark Knight prepares his squad to infiltrate Santa Prisca, he may find that it’s up to him alone to face Bane.

Why Its a Pick: Batman has had a team before but never one so mad and violent, and seeing how this works out for him and them has me excited. Add to this the newly altered and twisted Bane and this story should have action and violence all over, nicely inter spaced with the team dynamic. This is a good start to the post ‘Snyder’ Batman, and is looking very promising.

Book of the Week

Black Flame steal the crown this week- the story has been so tight and intriguing that nothing is getting to the top of the pile before this one! You owe it to yourself to be reading this and anything Mignola based right now in all honesty.
