Comic Book Picks 22nd June’16

Wednesday is only one sleep away now, and that means that tomorrow brings us new comic books. But whats worth the expenditure this week? Well here are my picks for the week.

Flash #1

Official Synopsis: “LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE” chapter one
A new storm brews over Central City and disproves the old adage about lightning never, well…you know. Just as Barry begins to feel overwhelmed fighting crime, a new speedster debuts-but just where did this amazing new friend come from?

Why its a Pick: Flash appears to be the focal point for the new Rebirth, and if the Rebirth special and the issue #0 are anything to go by this shouldn’t change anytime soon. This looks set to be the biggest Flash story in a long time and if DC can keep the momentum going could be one of the best superhero books released monthly and a whole lot of fun to go along with it.

Totally Awesome Hulk #7

Official Synopsis: CIVIL WAR II TIE-IN! BRUCE BANNER’S fate during the 8-month gap post-SECRET WARS is revealed! Was he really cured by AMADEUS CHO? Did he survive? Has Amadeus made a disastrous miscalculation?

Why its a Pick: Banner will always be the Hulk to me, no matter how entertaining Amadeus Cho is; so the return of the original Hulk is too much for me to not be extremely excited by. Add to that the teaser mage of Banners Hulk killing the Avengers from Civil War II and this tale should become very interesting very quickly.

Doctor Strange #9

Official Synopsis: Stripped of all of his magic, Stephen Strange scours the globe for any weapon he can use against the Empirikul.

Why its a Pick: This entire run on Doctor Strange has been amazing from Jason Aaron, and the last days of magic story-line has been very interesting as watching all the magic in the Marvel universe disappear and the repercussions this has on the likes of Doctor Voodoo and Scarlet Witch amongst others has been brilliant. This is the way Doctor Strange should be written and I’m excited to see what we get this week.

Book of the Week

Flash steals it this week, as the focal point of a brilliantly re-birthed (so Far) DC universe has been handled with care and attention, while maintaining the element of fun that should be here for Flash- lets hope we get our first real Rogue this time.
