Comic Book Picks 15th June’16

cropped-comic-picks-header.jpg

Wednesday is nearly here once more, and as a result we get a host of exciting looking comic books hitting the shelves- and in the midst of Civil War II tie-ins and Rebirth specials its even more difficult to narrow down the books to buy this week. But here are my top picks for this weeks releases.

Han Solo #1

HANSOLO1

Official Synopsis: Everyone’s favourite scoundrel gets his very own series! Han is given a top-secret undercover mission for the Rebellion – rescuing a number of informants and spies. His cover for the assignment? Only the biggest and most infamous starship race in the galaxy! You know – the race Han has dreamt of winning his entire life. Will he keep his mind on the mission? And can he manage to pull it off while keeping the lead? Best-selling author Marjorie Liu (X-MEN) comes to the Galaxy Far, Far Away along with superstar cover artist Mark Brooks (ULTIMATE X-MEN) in his return to interior art! Face it, readers – there aren’t enough scoundrels in your life!

Why its a Pick: Han Solo is one of Star Wars best characters, and with how well Marvel have handled books about Poe Dameron and Lando this should be a brilliant read if his character is done correctly. Marvels books have been great taking place between Episode IV and V and with some more story to be told it should provide some exciting moments as the race to beat the empire continues to rage on in the galaxy. I have really high hopes for this series and don’t expect to be disappointed.

Batman #1

16BAT1

Official Synopsis: No one has ever stopped the Caped Crusader. Not The Joker. Not Two-Face. Not even the entire Justice League. But how does Batman confront a new hero who wants to save the city from the Dark Knight?
CAN’T MISS: Superstar artist David Finch returns to Batman alongside writer Tom King for this five-part storyline.

Why its a Pick: Scott Snyder has moved on now, but that doesn’t mean I’m expecting anything less than the level of brilliance than we got before. With the Rebirth restart (kind of) the appearance of a new villain and a revamped team of sidekicks this looks like it could be a very promising start. Finch is a great artist too so I’m looking forward to his take on both Gotham and the Dark Knight- this book has me excited and if you have never read Batman before now is the time to jump on this book right now!

Civil War II #2

16CWII02.jpg

Official Synopsis: Two issues in one month? Hell yes! As the Marvel Universe reels from the events of the first issue, Tony Stark decides to take matters (and the law) into his own hands and declares war on the Inhumans. But not everyone agrees with Tony’s perspective and they are willing to die trying to stop him.

Why its a Pick: This book has been brilliant so far, the premise is great and the first issue was brilliantly written as the split felt real and was for what seemed like a valid reason. This book should start moving along now, and the level of action we should get is very promising. Either way this is Marvels big book and you should expect huge things.

Book of the Week

HANSOLO1

The scoundrel of a Galaxy Far Far Away has me more excited than any of the huge releases this week, and if you love comic books and Star Wars surely it gets no better than this one right here.

  1. Really looking forward to Batman #1 and Civil War II #2, those are sure to be good, might get Han Solo #1 as well. Not read many of the new Star Wars books except for Darth Vader.
