Comic Book Picks 25th May’16

Wednesday is nearly upon us, and in a very busy comic book week its going to be difficult to decide what you should be reading- hell I’ve struggled to narrow this down to a top three. But with that being said here are my top 3 picks for the week.

DC Rebirth Special #1

DCRBT1.jpg

Official Synopsis: It all begins here. Do not skip to the last page. Do not let a friend or message board ruin this comic for you. The future (and past) of the DC Universe starts here. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
THEY SAID IT: “Rebirth is about focusing in on the core of the character and their respective universe,” says writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. “It brings back what has been lost, the legacy of the characters, the love and the hope of the DCU!”

Why its a Pick: To be honest I’m not sold on another restart of sorts for the DC line as its only recently been done- however as with any event like this there are bond to be some massive initial shake-ups that you need to see first hand before they get ruined for you. Also I’m hopeful that DC will try and build some of there supporting characters into more rounded heroes (look at All New All Different Marvel) and that alone would be worth the restart. Either way there’s bond to be something massive here to get people talking and you don’t want to miss the start of the new era at DC.

Tokyo Ghost #7

TOKYOG7.jpg

Official Synopsis: The Tokyo Ghost has come to liberate New Los Angeles from the stranglehold of Flak Industries. But the powerful don’t go down without a fight, and this fight’s about to get ugly.

Why its a Pick: This book has been brilliant since its inception, and the reveal as to why the book is called ‘Tokyo Ghost’ last issue was also brilliantly done. Remender has been delivering a great story alongside some brilliantly written dialogue and an intriguing Sci-fi world- there’s no reason this should stop now in fact it should only continue to get more interesting and more intense as the story moves forward. This is a must for comic book fans, and not just this issue but the entire series so far!

Captain America: Steve Rogers #1

CAPSTEBE1.jpg

Official Synopsis: He’s back! The original Sentinel of Liberty returns, with a new shield, a new team, and a new mission! And he’s not the only one who’s back! Like the saying goes– cut off one LIMB, two more will take its place! HAIL HYDRA!

Why its a Pick: Captain America is back! Atleast the Captain America I grew up with, and its sure to be exciting- not to take anything away from Sam Wilson who has been brilliant, but surely theres room for two different Captains in the Marvel Universe. The FCBD teaser was good for this book, and seeing Cap work for a division of SHIELD having declared a War on Hydra and the Red Skull should be fun. This book should be a ton of fun, and at the end of the day isn’t that we buy these for?

Book of the Week

TOKYOG7

This book has me the most excited this week- Yes DC Rebirth will be massive but for the pure story this book will have it beaten hands down. Remender is amazing, and this book deserves to be my top title.

  1. I’m not especially mad about another DC reboot, especially now so much about it has been leaded online. Will probably check out bits & pieces, but I’m a bit fed up with reboots and crossover events now. I’m looking forward to the The X-Files #2 and Godzilla Oblivion #3 this week, two really good books, something a bit different. Have a great new comic book day 🙂

    • Rebirth wasn’t amazing- so you proably made a good call.
Captain America #1 was good though- shocking but good.
And I need to check out Godzilla, I’m hearing really good things

      • Yeah, the Rebirth was ok, and Captain America #1 has certainly got everyone talking and shook everything up. Godzilla Oblivion has been great, well worth checking out, really like the art on this book as well.
