I feel as tomorrow is Star Wars day, I should only select Star Wars comics however I wont be- but I will have a Star Wars themed post tomorrow. For now lets look forward to the last bunch of comic books before FCBD16 with my picks of the week.
Hellboy in Hell #9
Official Synopsis: Hellboy faces demons furious about the fall of Hell and his role in it, and another family member makes an appearance. First part in the two-issue conclusion to Hellboy in Hell!
Why its a Pick: This is the penultimate Hellboy to be written by Mignola according to the man himself, and may well be the end of Hellboy (except for prequel tales) and for me this is a huge thing. I’ve followed Hellboy since his launch, and have long awaited the end to see if he can avoid his destiny and as things draw near the outcome isn’t looking good. Either way this book should be brilliant if not bitter sweet, get your hands on this for sure.
Moon Knight #2
Official Synopsis: THE ONLY WAY OUT IS DOWN!
Marc Spector is in an asylum full of faces: haughty doctor, hostile orderlies, vacant-eyed patients. Or maybe those faces are actually just masks… If some of those masks hide friends, others may hide enemies, or worse…GODS and MONSTERS. The moon is out, the mask is on: it’s time to escape—will Marc find a city full of sand, or something truly horrifying?
Why its a Pick: The first issue was brilliantly written by Lemire, and really got you hooked on the new direction and tale- seeing familiar faces in a 12monkeys style psychiatric ward. The ending was huge, and left a great anticipation and need to find outs what truly happening and where it goes next. This could be one of Marvels best new series (See those here) if it continues this well, and you should jump on board now.
Official Synopsis: A by-the-numbers drug bust is about to take Frank Castle by surprise…and he HATES surprises. The horrible fallout threatens to send The Punisher into the heart of darkness, but Castle won’t make that journey alone: A DEA agent is on his trail and attempting to get into his head…but what horrors will she find there, and will she survive the experience? First-time Punisher writer Becky Cloonan and quintessential Punisher artist Steve Dillon are forcing Frank Castle out of his comfort zone and taking him to the edge of the world he thought he knew!
Why its a Pick: Frank Castle appears to be going through a revivial over at Marvel; he had DareDevil season2, gets his own Netflix series and a relaunch with top talent on this new book. Now while I’m the first to admit I enjoy the Punisher books I find myself falling away after 30issues or so normally as it gets a little repetitive with the hunt find and kill. However, I’m as sold by the recent hype as anyone on the character and hope Marvel can relaunch this title in a good way- hence this pick is more for curiosity than it doing anything new but I’m definitely checking it out.
Book of the Week
There is no other title this week that has me more excited than Hellboy in Hell- this will be the first thing I read this week and I’ve been awaiting its arrival for months now. This is almost the end, and I’m excited for the final chapter of a character I’ve loved for years.
