This week comic books are nearly here and its a mixed bag of new titles and ongoing stories that are being released, but what worth buying? Well here are my pick for the week.
Moon Knight #1
Official Synopsis: Marc Spector (a.k.a. Moon Knight/Jake Lockley/Steven Grant) has been fighting criminals and keeping New York City safe for years… or has he? When he wakes up in an insane asylum with no powers and a lifetime’s worth of medical records, his whole identity (indentities) are called into question. Something is wrong, but is that something Marc Spector himself? Jeff Lemire (EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN) and rising star Greg Smallwood are calling everything you know about Moon Knight into question
Why its a Pick: Moon Knight has been on fire in its recent incarnations and I see no reason why this should be changing with the creative team on this book. Moon Knight has always been an interesting character given his multiple personality disorder and his vigilante approach to justice, and with Lemire on the writing duties this book should take off and maybe do for this character what Soule has done for Daredevil recently.
Harrow County #11
Official Synopsis: An infestation of insidious serpents has warped the minds of Bernice’s neighbors. Turning to the mysterious Lovey Belfont for aid, Bernice soon learns the dark history surrounding the land on which the Holler rests.
Why its a Pick: This book has been picked up by SyFy for a television adaptation, and at only 11 issues in this should tell you how good this book has been. Cullen Bunn has delivered a great tale with every book and has delivered some brilliant characters and some genuinely creepy moments along the way- If you’ve been reading my pick list you should know this as been here since the beginning. This book is so consistently good, it deserves far more credit than it has been getting. If you’ve missed it thus far the second volume trade paperback is out this week too, so get on board now!
Darth Vader #19
Official Synopsis: The SHU-TORUN WAR concludes! Will Vader bring the Ore Barons in line? Or will Cylo and his warriors show the Dark Lord how it’s done?
Why its a Pick: This is the best of the brilliant Star Wars books that Marvel are publishing, despite me really enjoying Poe Dameron last week, and it has totally nailed the portrayal of Vader as a force to be reckoned with. This issue should be no different as he takes on 2of Cylo’s warriors while trying to defeat an uprising at the same time. If anyone can do these two tasks at once it surely Vader?
Book of the Week
Moon Knight has me more excited than anything else this week- the anticipation for this book is huge. I’m fully expecting this to deliver great things, and I’m hopeful that this cant be wrong. If you fancy a new title this week, then this should be the one for you.
