Comic Book Picks 18November ’15

Wednesday is nearly here now and that means that not only is it 1day until Star Wars:Battelfornt launches her in the UK, but its also more importantly new comic book day. So with that in mind here are my top picks for this week.

Star Wars: Vader Down #1

Official Synopsis: When Darth Vader accidentally finds himself facing off against the Rebel Fleet on his own, the rebels will learn the true strength of the Dark Side of the Force! Once Vader crashes on a nearby planet, the Rebellion is willing to risk everything for this once-in-a-lifetime chance to take out one of their biggest enemies! Luke! Vader! Leia! Aphra! Han! Chewie! And all manner of Droid, good and evil!

Why its a Pick: Star Wars has been on fire with Marvel, and this is the first mini-event that they are publishing and it sounds like a great story to tell. Not only do we get to see Vader take on the Rebel Fleet in a new story that takes place within cannon and should allow us to witness the real force of Vader- this is something always worth seeing. Im excited for this event, and I don’t expect it to let us down.

The Mighty Thor #1

Official Synopsis: When DR. JANE FOSTER lifts the mystic hammer Mjolnir, she is transformed into the Goddess of Thunder, THE MIGHTY THOR! Her enemies are many, as Asgard descends further into chaos and war threatens to spread throughout the Ten Realms. Yet her greatest battle will be against a far more personal foe: the cancer that is killing her mortal form.

Why its a Pick: While some of Marvels new titles have been a bit hit and miss in terms of success, I have all the faith in Jason Aaron to deliver the kind of engrossing character work and story telling that he did with Jane Foster’s Thor prior to the relaunch and Secret Wars event. Jane Foster as Thor has felt fresh and exciting and I’m very hopeful that this will continue forward into the All New All Different Marvel universe.

I Hate Fairyland #2

Official Synopsis: Does Gert die by the axe of her assassin, Bruud The Brutal? Spoiler: Probably not.

Why its a Pick: Skottie Young delivered an absolutely insanely great first issue on this, that was everything you expect from the creative mind of Young let loose on a adult title. The artwork was unique and great to see, not too mention the great colouring work and the intriguing and mature story telling. This book was one of my most anticipated of the week with its first issue and it did not disapoint, hell it may have even been better than I was hoping.

Book of the Week

Right Now Star Wars is too big at Marvel and in the world as a whole to not steal the book of the week award. The premise of this mini-event is great and I cant wait to get stuck into this tomorrow.
