Comic Book Picks 26August ’15

With Wednesday arriving very soon, here are my top picks for this weeks new comic books- featuring a favourite character of mine for sure.

Hellboy in Hell #7

Official Synopsis: “The Hounds of Pluto” Part 1 of 2. A sickness eats away at Hellboy. Though he’s dead, he risks losing himself and becoming one of the hollow phantoms that haunt Hell. A team of doctors promise a cure, but they need something from him first . .

Why its a Pick: Hellboy is never anything short of brilliant, and as the end draws near for the long running series I couldn’t be more nervous yet excited to see where this tale takes us. Add to this the fact that Mignola is back on the artwork, and despite some amazing artist over the characters tenure the original is still the best in my opinion, this is easily one of my most anticipated books of the month never mind the week.

Over the Garden Wall #1

Official Synopsis: A new Over the Garden Wall story set between episodes 3 and 4 of the animated series! Wirt and Greg are trying to hitch a ride out of schooltown but end up having to walk. Soon, they come upon two girls playing, and wind up having to keep them entertained so that they don’t wake their giant father!

Why its a Pick: If you’ve never seen the animated series you should check it out right now (here’s my review) as its easily one of the weirdest and darkest children’s shows in along time, but it also manages to have a captivating look and feel to it that keeps you wanting more, and the opportunity to see what happened in the huge time gaps between episodes is to enticing to miss.

Fight Club 2 #4

Official Synopsis: Each time Sebastian’s drifted off to sleep, Tyler’s emerged to run Project Mayhem. The “Human Sacrifices” who’ve pledged their lives to fulfilling their dreams . . . becoming doctors, accountants, lawyers — even MBAs! . . . what they’re really becoming are Tyler’s slaves. And the ones who fail him? They die . . .

Why its a Pick: This book has far exceeded any expectations i had for it, i was sceptical there was a story to tell or a reason for it to exist- yet it has managed to be both engaging and entertaining. The story is taking an unexpected turn around Tyler and I’m really looking forward to what happens next- way more than i was expecting too be, and Stewart’s art is a great fit for the ‘Fight Club’ world too.

Book of the Week

Nothing was going to steal the Crown this week from the promised King of Hell and his potential downfall towards the end. I couldn’t be more excited for this book, and it will be the very first thing I read this week.
