Comic Book Picks 10June ’15

cropped-comic-picks-header.jpgWednesday is once again on the brink of arriving- and other than being the middle of the week this day is great for the abundance of new comic book releases. So lets take a look at what i think you should be buying and reading this week.

Batman #41

Official Synopsis: The all-new Batman makes his debut! Who is he, and what happens next? Find out here as a new era begins in Gotham City!

Why its a Pick: Snyder has delivered with everything that he has touched related to the ‘Bat’ and the Finale to ‘Endgame’ was possibly the best single Batman issue of the modern era. Add to this the Free Comic book day mini issue explaining who’s in the new suit and im more excited for this than I thought I would be, however we all know Bruce Wayne is bound to return at some point but for now I trust in Snyder to give us a good tale and an exciting new take on the Batman.

The Disciples #1

Official Synopsis: Dagmar, Rick, and Jules, intrepid private eyes/bounty hunters, have been hired by a high ranking Senator to retrieve his teenage daughter who’s run off to join a mysterious religious cult. This is no ordinary cult though. In the near future of The Disciples, the ultra-wealthy have become true Masters of the Universe by colonizing moons throughout the solar system. Billionaire industrialist McCauley Richmond is one such colonist: he’s built a new society on Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter, where his flock of cultists can have the religious freedom to worship him. But when the team reaches Ganymede in their Starship Venture, they discover something has gone horribly wrong! This ghost story in space reunites comics’ king of the macabre Steve Niles with his longtime collaborator Christopher Mitten, whose stylish mix of grit and flow matches Steve’s sharp characterizations and taste for screams.

Why its a Pick: Steve Niles is a true master of horror books, and this one reads like it should be a great tale of both science fiction and scary moments. If you like your books bloody, scary and drawn brilliantly then there’s nothing better out there this week for you than the new title from Niles and Mitten.

Nameless #4

Official Synopsis: The world descends into chaos and the astronauts stranded in the Tunnels of Xibalba must endure unspeakable tortures when their captors finally reveal themselves. As all human hopes, fears, doubts, and dreams are subjected to the cruel and merciless scrutiny of an inhuman, sadistic intelligence, is reality collapsing? Or sanity?

Why its a Pick: Morrison has delivered a totally insane and engrossing story so far that has been both intriguing and nuts in equal measure, but in th best way possibly for a comic book and this issue seems to promise to continue that trend of great dialog and messed up images and themes. This book should be at the top of anyone pull list if you like your tales dark and science fiction filled.

Other books of note this week:

  • Saga #29
  • Injection #2
  • Harrow County #2
  • Constantine: THe Hellblazer #1
  • Chrononuats #4
  • Black Science #15

Book of the Week

Steve Niles and Mitten’s new book has me excited this week, and only just marginally steals the thunder from the nnew Batman- but it does manage to. This is the book you really shouldnt pass up this week.
