Comic Book Picks 13May ’15

Wednesday is nearly here and this week is a huge week for releases from all the big and little publishers; with an array of new titles and big summer events. So what gets book of the week, is it a new title from Warren Ellis? Jason Aaron revealing the identity of Thor? Or Marvels big summer event, or maybe its none of these. Well here are my picks.

Thor #8

Official Synopsis: The final battle with the Destroyer! Guest stars galore! A shocking return! And oh yeah…Thor’s secret identity revealed at last!!

Why its a Pick: I don’t feel like I have anything new to say about this title- it has been amazing since its switch to a female led Thor, and the whole secret behind who is the new goddess of Thunder has been brilliantly done. The reveal has the potential to be huge for this book, and also has me excited as I’ve been guessing for issues now but have no clearer an idea. This should be a really good read here- oh yeah and we get the final battle with the Destroyer and a host of female heroes! Do you need anymore?

Secret Wars #2

Why its a Pick: This is the big summer blockbuster from Marvel, and issue 1 was a really enjoyable read and I expect this to continue over the course of the 8issues. This signals the end of the universe’s and the beginnig of something new and if that doesn’t excite you- then maybe comic books aren’t your thing! Yes that’s how big this is, the Marvel universe as we know it is ending and you need to know why and how.

Injection #1

Official Synopsis: Once upon a time, there were five crazy people, and they poisoned the 21st Century. Now they have to deal with the corrosion to try to save us all from a world becoming too weird to support human life. Injection is the new ongoing series created by the creative team of Moon Knight. It is science fiction, tales of horror, strange crime fiction, techno-thriller, and ghost story all at the same time. A serialized sequence of graphic novels about how loud and strange the world is getting, about the wild future and the haunted past all crashing into the present day at once, and about five eccentric geniuses dealing with the paranormal and numinous as well as the growing weight of what they did to the planet with the Injection.

Why its a Pick: Warren Ellis writes amazing books, and I see this Science Fiction book being right up there with the best things he has written, as he does flourish with science based books. Add to that he brings with him the Moon Knight artist in the form of Declan Shalvey and this book should look as great as it reads, of all the new titles this week this is easily my most anticipated.

Just missing the cut this week, but well worth buying are Saga #28, Chrononauts #3 and Black Science #14

Book of the Week:

The promise of the reveal and the final showdown with the Destroyer is too much for me to not be excited about. This book takes my title of the week in a hugely heavy week, and that only speaks volumes to how great this title is right now.
