Wednesday is nearly here again, and while this week doesn’t see a huge amount of top titles or a large number of exciting new titles hitting the shelves there is definitely still some titles that you need to be reading this week; and in my opinion here is the cream of the crop
Official Synopsis: From MARK MILLAR (Kick-Ass) and SEAN GORDON MURPHY (Punk Rock Jesus) comes a bromance for the ages! Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly are two buddies who love to have fun. They’re also scientific geniuses. When their research leads them to a time-traveling adventure, will they use their knowledge for the good of all mankind? Or use the space-time continuum for their own ends? This is the story of man’s first, televised steps through the time-stream and everything going wrong in the process.
Why its a Pick: Mark Millar always delivers a good read, and his stories always start out strong and interesting and I expect this to be exactly the same. The addition of time travel to a Millar story makes this science fiction book stand out from the others, and im hoping that it’s as good a story as Black Science (Remender is amazing with this) as this book has set the bar for time travel and alternate universes. Murphy is always solid on the artwork too, so when you combine this with the writing style of Millar this book should be a very good thing to look at and read- and isn’t this why we love comic books?! Get on board with this book now as its sure to blow up and become huge.
Amazing Spider-Man 16.1
Official Synopsis: SPIRAL begins here!
The underworld is in a constant flux and has been since the Kingpin got taken out at SHADOWLAND. That war is heating up and Spidey’s going to do something about it. But he’s not the only one– Police Captain Yuri Watanabe is trying to curtail the madness both in her day job as a police office and as the vigilante THE WRAITH! Do she and Spidey play by the same rules?
Why its a Pick: This is the first issue of Spider-Man taking place within currently continuity not written by Slott in a long time, despite my worries over this the story sounds solid and seeing the new hardened Black Cat is too intriguing a prospect to not be excited about; especially given last isseus glimpse. It should also be fun to see how this all plays into the recovering Spider-Man post Spider-Verse as he’s clearly not back to full strength following the siphoning of life force from Morlun.
Frankenstein Underground #1
Official Synopsis: The Frankenstein creature is alone, abandoned, and wandering underground, where he will discover other strange creatures—and dark secrets to the universe.
Why its a Pick: This is written by Mike Mignola and is a horror creature based comic book- do I need to say anymore? Lets just look at the success of his others books of this nature- and you know that this is going to be a great read. The fact that this book seems to take place in a world full of monsters would also suggest that this isn’t going to stray to far from the type of stories we see in Hellboy only helps to add to my excitement for this title.
Book of the Week
Mark Millar has me excited with the prospect of this book, and the fact that Millar is known for delivering some great mature reads doesn’t hurt either. Get on board with this book before it becomes one of the next big things.
