Wednesday is nearly upon us along with a host of top titles this week to choose from, there’s a bunch of ongoing titles that have been amazing in th last few months along with some exciting new titles launching this week; making it harder than ever to work out what to be buying. to help you along with this, here are my Picks of the Week
Official Synopsis: “Endgame” part 5. The Joker is back! The penultimate issue of the Clown Prince of Crime’s horrifying return! Plus, in the backup story, the inmates and Mahreen finally learn the truth about The Joker!
Why its a Pick: The Joker has long been a favourite of mine and is a villain unlike any other but Snyder has still managed to make him scarier, creepier, more menacing and now eternal? Surely this can’t be right, do we really have no origin because he has been forever? Or is this all an elaborate ruse from the Clown Prince of Crime, either way im exceptionally excited to find out where this goes and how the Court of Owls (once foes of Batman) could possibly help him in his crusade against the Joker. This has been one hell of a story so far, and don’t expect ‘Endgame’ to be slowing down or dropping in quality anytime soon.
Thor Annual #1
Official Synopsis: Three stories featuring three Thors!
Wrestling superstar CM Punk and Rob Guillory (Chew) on Young Thor’s idea for how to prove himself worthy of Mjolnir: a drinking competition! Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes) and Marguerite Sauvage tell a tale of the new Thor! And Jason Aaron on the Girls of Thunder’s quest to find the perfect birthday present for their grandfather, King Thor! How about a new Garden of Eden?
Why its a Pick: Honestly im a little bias here, as im a huge fan of CM Punk and cant wait to see his comic book debut- despite it being a short story for an annual im looking forward to seeing what and how he does. But lets put that aside for now and look at how amazing the main Thor book has been since the chance in direction and Aaron has been doing a great job, so three tales featuring Thor sounds like 3times the fun this week to me. We also get to see a new tale featuring the new Thor, so will we get any back story as to who she may well be? If you love your god/goddess of Thunder here’s the place to get your fix this week.
Official Synopsis: SPIDER-GWEN SPINS INTO HER OWN SERIES! BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! The breakout hit of the biggest Spider-Event of the century is taking comic shops by storm this winter with her own new ongoing series – SPIDER-GWEN! Gwen Stacy is Spider-Woman, but you knew that already. What you DON’T know is what friends and foes are waiting for her in the aftermath of Spider-Verse! From the fan-favorite creative team that brought you Spider-Gwen’s origin story in EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE, Jason Latour and Robbie Rodriguez
Why its a Pick: Spider-Gwen seemed odd to me as an idea at first, but then she hit the pages of Edge of Spider-Verse and she looked cool, she had a swagger to her and a real sense of character and instantly won me over as she seems to have the entire Marvel comic book fan base. The opportunity to get a comic book with Gwen as the lead is a great idea, and she has shown over the course of Spider-Verse that she can be a leading character so this book is full of potential- whether this will be long-term or short-term I have no idea, but its bound to be fun right from the start.
Book of the Week
Yes Spider-Gwen steals the show just she did in the Edge of Spider-Verse stories that introduced her.
