Wednesday is only around the corner, and that means that its time for new comic books very soon. With this week not seeing a host of major title released, what out there is worth your time? Here are !y picks of the week
Official Synopsis: Cindy Moon exploded out of her bunker and into the Marvel Universe when we first learned that she had been bitten by that same radioactive spider in the first arc of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. She then went on to save Peter Parker’s life (more than once!) and traverse the Spider-verse alongside Spider-Woman. Now, as SILK, Cindy is on her own in New York City, searching for her past, defining her own future, and webbing up wrong-doers along the way! Robbie Thompson (writer from TV’s Supernatural) fills this new ongoing series with his unique blend of antics and feels. Featuring stunning covers by Eisner Award winner Dave Johnson and interiors by future superstar Stacey Lee.
Why its a Pick: Silk has been a surprising break out star of the Spider-Verse series and has been an exciting character so far, which gives me hope that on her own she should be interesting enough for a short run and it all starts here. The link to Parkers origin is also exciting and should provide some great back story, which I’m excites to read while giving this book a go.
Uncanny X-Men #31
Official Synopsis: As the fallout from AXIS continues, the Uncanny X-Men seem to be searching for an identity. Viewed as terrorists by some…as revolutionaries by others…as teachers by their students. If odd ones at that. But some don’t see the grey. For those whose world is black and white, the wrongs will add up…and they will see RED.
Why its a Pick: this has been one hell of a tale as of late being told by Bendis, and the recent addition of Matthew Malloy as a new mutant with powers over life and death but no ability to control them is amazing! Just look at what he has done over the last few issues and tell me you don’t need to be reading this book to see the changes happening to the X-Men and their world.
Scalped Deluxe Edition
Official Synopsis: The first eleven issues of the acclaimed series are collected in hardcover for the first time! Dashiell Bad Horse has come home to the reservation armed with a set of nunchucks, a hell-bent-for-leather attitude and a dark secret. But nothing has changed – except for the glimmering new casino, and a once-proud people overcome by drugs and organized crime. Includes sketch material by artist R.M. Guera.
Why its a Pick: Scalped is an amazing read and a great series, and that should be enough. The fact this book finished its run before I ever got to recommend it is the reason its here, as everyone who loves comic books should have read this. When you add in that this is currently being developed for television too, there’s no better time to read this than now if you’ve never been on board before.
Book of the Week
Scalped scores the win here- the prospect of collecting and re-reading the first 11issues is too good to miss and all new readers need to get on board with this book.
