Comic Book Picks 4th Feb’15

This weeks comic book releases features a number of top titles and a couple of exciting sounding and looking new number 1’s, so amongst a busy week of top title here are my top choices for your hard-earned money

Goon: Once Upon a Hard Time

Official Synopsis: After the tragic events of Occasion of Revenge, the witch coven believes that control of the unnamed town will soon be in their grasp and the Goon’s tragic soul will contribute to the curse that increases their power. But has their plot destroyed the Goon or created a monster too savage for them to withstand?
Once upon a Hard Time is a climactic miniseries that has major consequences for the Goon and his supporting cast. If you’re a Goon fan, you can’t miss this.

Why its a Pick: This is being billed as the official story to end the entire run of ‘The Goon’ which has been nothing short a superb pulp series from Eric Powell, that has had me interested and engaged from the very beginning. If this truly is the end of this character then you need to be on board to see how this all plays out, and if you’ve never read the Goon before- then why the hell not? This should be funny, exciting and climatic so I see no reason not to be buying this series.

Nameless #1

Official Synopsis: An astronomer kills his family, then himself, leaving a cryptic warning.
A Veiled Lady hunts her victims through human nightmares.
An occult hustler known only as ‘Nameless’ is recruited by a consortium of billionaire futurists for a desperate mission.
And the malevolent asteroid Xibalba spins closer on a collision course with Earth.
But nothing is what it seems-a terrifying inhuman experiment is about to begin.
Abandon all hope and experience ultimate horror in NAMELESS.

Why its a Pick: Grant Morrison delivers some amazingly insane stories, which while at times can be hard to follow are always worth the effort as the pay off is unique and explosive and im expecting nothing less from this series. This is billed as a horror filled science fiction tale, and the synopsis definitely sounds like this should be creepy, scary and filled with twists and turns- this is definitely one of the most anticipated books of the month from myself and many others, so give it a go.

Wytches #4

Official Synopsis: Now, with the true nature of the wytches revealed, Charlie descends into the Earth in a desperate race to save his daughter and his family from an inconceivable fate.

Why its a Pick: Wytches has been an amazing read thus far and has been filled with genuinely scary moments and some exceptionally creepy visuals from Jock, and with the action due to build im fully expecting these moments to be more and more frequent as the story really increases its pace. If you like horror comics and great reads this should be the series you get behind right now!

Other Books I’m excited by: Ant Man #2, Avengers #41, Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men: Black Vortex #1, Hellboy and the BPRD #3, Hulk #11, Saga #25, Star Wars #2, Wolf Moon #3, Velvet #9

Book of the Week

The Goon, is a long running favourite of mine and with the promise this may be the end im equal parts sad and excited, and its been a long time since I was so excited to see the actual end to a book that I couldn’t pick anything else this week but the beginning of the end for the Goon.
