This weeks new comic books are nearly upon us and its a much bigger week with a host of more releases than the last few and that can only be a positive. So without further ado here are my picks for the week
Uncanny Avengers #1
Official Synopsis: From the ashes of AXIS an all-new, all different Avengers assemble! The tragedy at the end of AXIS has left the Uncanny Avengers vulnerable, and someone is taking advantage of it.
One of the Avengers oldest foes returns with a terrible secret that will, all hyperbole aside, shatter the lives of two members of the squad. What is Counter-Earth? What terrible secrets does it house?
Why its a Pick: Rick Remender has done no wrong with the Uncanny Avengers since he took the reigns and has delivered one of the best runs for the Avengers in recent times (right alongside Hickmans run as of now) and that alone has me excited for his post Axis Avengers team. The feel of the team and the look of the team is intriguing and exciting- as its massively different to the first team that was in place and if Remender can elevate some of the team members this should be an exciting book.
Official Synopsis: “Endgame” part 4. The Joker is back! This time, no more funny stuff. And in the backup story, five Arkham Asylum escapees share their encounters with The Joker!
Why its a Pick: The Joker is back and creepier than ever before- yes that’s a bold claim but its damn true. No-one writes the Joker as well in the same scary and horrid way that Snyder does and this always needs to be seen. This is compounded by the fact that the current story is amazing- how has the Joker returned? Why now? and whats the plan for Batman? if it involved poisoning the Justice League and contacting 5inmates of the asylum, what must he be upto? This is easily the best book that DC are printing right now and it demands to be read.
Official Synopsis: The Odinson is back. And he clearly doesn’t like that someone else is holding his hammer. You know what that means, right? THOR VS. THOR!!!
Why its a Pick: Thor vs Thor- do you need more. We know how unhappy the Odinson is, and how much the new Thor doesn’t fully grasp her power yet, this should be one hell of a showdown between the two. Will this give us more information around who the new Thor is too, and why the Odinson lost his right to wield Mjolnir- I can only hope so but the mystery and the current direction of this book are enough to keep me happily engaged.
I dont normally do this, but there are several other books of note this week that i want to shout out- as they just missed a very difficult week. So you should also check out:
- Sex Criminals #10
- The Dying and the Dead
- Gotham by Midnight #3
Book of the Week
Remender steals it this week, barely, with a title that has been soldi and looks to really change the Marvel universe ahead of its end (presumably)
