Royal Rumble 2015 Predictions

This years Royal Rumble is upon us this evening, and as always with this event its the true beginning of WrestleMania season and tonight’s winner is guaranteed a spot in the main event on the biggest stage in wrestling. But who’s going to win? Well here are my thoughts

tonight’s card isn’t amazing, but a solid main event and a Rumble that has only just over half the competitors already announced make this an exciting prospect.

New Day vs Cesaro, Kidd and Adam Rose
This match doesn’t mean a huge amount and that’s only further emphasised because it’s on the pre-show, which is a shame given the talent between Cesaro and Kidd. The team of New Day seem to be getting a push from WWE management despite having no real gimmick or even adding anything of interest to the roster, and as much as I’d love that to end here tonight I’m afraid I don’t see that being the case.

Winner: New Day

New Age Outlaws vs Ascension
The Ascension have not been billed well at all since their arrival on the main roster- which is a real shame as they were the longest reigning NXT Tag team champions of all time. The duo also have the ability to get themselves over as a great heel team given the right opportunity and I feel tonight has to be it! We have so far only seen the Ascension beat jobbers and then cut horrid promos before this weeks best down at the hands of the New Age Outlaws, APA and the NWO. The New Age Outlaws deliver good matches in the main so this should be a better match than expected, and hopefully will stand out from the plethora of tag matches on the show as one of the better.

Winner: Ascension (please please please)

Bella Twins vs Paige & Natalya
This has been a weird feud to get us to this point, no-one has specifically been after the championship and they’ve all traded wins back and forth. To be honest this feels like a place holder feud until they work out who should challenge Nikki for the championship. The only saving grace for this match is that both Paige and Natalya can wrestle, unfortunately there on the same team. I expect this to be an average affair that doesn’t showcase the best of WWE’s women. Despite this I think the worst of the workers in this match will take the pin, so sorry Brie but that’s you.

Winner: Paige &Natalya

WWE Tag Team Championships Miz & Mizdow vs The Uso’s
This match is going to be used to further the issues between Miz and Mizdow leading into the Rumble later that evening. The Uso’s have been the best WWE tag team all last year and I don’t see them losing the gold here to a team looking more and more likely to be going their separate ways. I fully expect Miz to force Mizdow to take the lose somehow or to refuse to use him at all leading to the eventual split in the rumble itself. This match is the clearest outcome of them all on the card

Winner: The Uso’s

WWE World championship match; Brock Lesnar vs John Cena vs Seth Rollins
This match has the hardest outcome to predict (except the Rumble) as there are so many routes that the creative team could go given the three men in the match and the potential WrestleMania main event could be a multitude of different set-ups. However the smart money here tonight is that Rollins leaves with the belt in one way or another- a clean win or cashing in ‘Money in the Bank,’ but the real outside bet here is that the WWE uses this opportunity to change the landscape of the show massively and turn Lesnar face! I know I hear everyone going WHAT?? But let’s be honest they’ve misused him as a heel over the last few months (and Rollins has been the backbone of the company and a great heel) and on Mondays Raw the fans were ready to cheer for him beating up the Authority from the start of the night and hasn’t Heyman already worked with Rollins and teased a split? Could you imagine Rollins walking out as champion due to a Heyman turn on Lesnar and the ‘Beast’ chasing the gold to the mania after walking through everyone. This would be a great story line, maybe wont be the case but either way Rollins walks out with the gold and we get no ‘Cenation’ win here (for a change) and the Beast drops the gold to the best wrestler and character on each and every show week in and week out.

Winner: And new WWE champion Seth Rollins (New Paul Heyman guy?)

Royal Rumble

This is the hardest of all WWE matches to call- mainly because there are so many stars in this match like Reigns and Bryan to nae a few. However we also only know 17 of the competitors:

Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, Rusev, Bad News Barrett, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Goldust, Stardust, Big Show, Kane, The Miz, Damien Mizdow, R-Truth, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Fernando, Diego, Fandango

This leaves a lot of spots left to fill, and a host of surprise entrants- the Rock is in Philadelphia so a surprise appearance from him wouldn’t be out of the question. The Dudley Boyz are free from their TNA contracts and have been very quit lately so could this be on the cards too? Then there’s DDP who is also near Philadelphia apparently and I wouldn’t put it past him to return tonight. The viper (Randy Orton) has been conspicuously absent so maybe an RKO out of nowhere will appear tonight- this one is almost a guarantee. And then theres the ‘Beast’ himself Brock Lesnar who may lose his title but win a shot at revenge at Wrestlemania against Rollins.  And lets not forget Sting has yet to get in a WWE ring.

This is too tough to call- as I see it being too early for the predicted Reigns win, and Bryan doesn’t appear to be back at his best yet either. However if anyone but Bryan wins the crowd may go insane and revolt, so he seems like the odds on favourite right now.

Winner: Daniel Bryan, however in a fantasy booking sense Brock Lesnar after a title lose to avenge himself against Rollins.

That’s it and I guess time will tell- but let me know what you think.
