Comic Book Picks 22nd October ’14

Wednesday has nearly rolled around once more, which means it’s nearly time to get down to your local comic book store and buy the most important purchases of the week: Comic Books! But whats worth your time this week, well here are my buys of the week

Amazing Spider-Man #8

Official Synopsis: Step over the EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE! MC2 Spider-Girl finds herself and her family under attack from the mysterious forces behind Spider-Verse! Ms. Marvel gets Spider-Man out of a jam.

Why its a Pick: Spider-Verse is looking like it will be a hot property, and with the ‘Edge of Spider-Verse’ mini series having finished and having been red-hot, there is no reason to expect the final preparation for Spider-Verse to be anything other than red-hot too. And this issue seems to fit directly into Spider-Verse, and that’s only a good thing- especially given that it looks to give us more of Morlun and the Hunters. Dan Slott has been amazing on Spider-Man since he took the reigns and this doesn’t look like its going to stop anytime soon.

Avengers and X-Men: Axis #3

Official Synopsis: ACT I: THE RED SUPREMACY!  With the heroes lost, the world’s fate lies in the hands of the vilest syndicate known to man. Scarlet Witch is forced to join Dr. Doom, the man who unleashed her power to cause M-Day, or she will watch those she loves most die. The return of one of the Marvel Universe’s great villains! An Avenger quits, a heart is broken, and the world as we know it is gone

Why its a Pick: Marvel has been on a role with the first two of this weekly event, and we all know Marvel events tend to start slowly but Axis appears to be the exception to that rule having given us a ton of action and storyline development in the first two issues, this is a great start. It also appears that the events of Axis will have massive impacts on the entire future of the Marvel universe, so get on board now before everything changes and you have no idea why. Plus the final page of the last issue- with all the villains assembled thanks to Magneto, looking to face the Red Onslaught was such a cool image- you need to see how what happens next.

Deathstroke #1

Official Synopsis: he DCU’s deadliest assassin stars in his own ongoing series by writer/artist Tony S. Daniel! See him as never before in this explosive new series, with one surprise after another as we see Slade Wilson in the fight of his life!

Why its a Pick: Deathstroke has always been a hugely popular DC villain of mine and a lot of other people’s, and has always been great when appearing as a character in other titles- so him getting his own title should be exciting. Add to this all the buzz about a potential Suicide Squad movie and Deathstrokes appearance in this and this book should be hot from the offset. Tony Daniel has always done a great job with artwork too, so this book should look great, lets just hope he can nail the writing style of Deathstroke- but i have faith as Daniel does tend to excel in action writing and this title should be loaded with action.

Book of the Week

There is no way after the final page of the last issue- that anything else has me more excited this week than seeing all of the Marvel universe biggest Villains (at least from Earth) teaming up together to fight the Red Onslaught.
