Weekly Recommendation: American Horror Story

Monday is here once again and that means its time for me to get on my high horse and tell everyone what they should be looking to add to their lives this week- and this week its the ever creative American Horror Story.

TEcran_Titre_d'American_Horror_Storyhe show is now in its fourth season, and is still moving along strongly and packing in viewers due to its creative approach to story telling an a very strong cast of actors that really deliver in every scene you get to witness. The show is difficult to sum up in a short paragraph as each season has had a totally different self enclosed story set in a different town, timeline and overall scary setting. And that’s what really makes this show- the deep psychological horror that is inherent in each of the stories and the creepiness that is shown by all of the characters.

The first season was a very modern take on the haunted house- containing a family within an evil house, and watching them all fall apart slowly as the house and its demons slowly tear at each of the individuals. But to add to this we also got some of the creepy history behind the house and how living there had ended for some of the previous tenants. This series started it all and was very strong on characterisation and story- and is well worth checking out, but be warned it ends poorly- and i mean the last 15minutes tain the entire season.

Season 2 entitled ‘Asylum’ is easily the best series that has been released so far, as the creepy factor from the first season was ramped right up as was the horror and the feeling of dread that you had watching each moment of the show. The asylum within the setting was superb, it was just as you would imagine its was full of dark corridors and darker medical characters that added the real scary factor to the story before you even mention the medical experimentation and the other worldly characters- with the Angel of Death being a real visual treat to the eyes.

Season 3 took on Withces in the modern era- and gave us another good season with a cast full of characters you loved- especially the Frankenstein Monster here. And Season for entitled ‘Freakshow’ has just begun to air, and is looking like it could be the creepiest and most successful yet. It’s not too late to just jump on board and join the Freak Train, as long as you can hold on and cope with the fear along the way.

Fox Searchlight 2012 Golden Globe Awards Party - ArrivalsHowever as I mentioned before what has really made the show apart from the writing and its inherit creepiness, is the brilliance of the cast. And each season has seen the main actors and actresses held over to play differing roles within the next season, not only does this allow the viewer to spot recurring stars- but it appears to give the show more strength as the actors seem familiar with the writing and shooting style of the team and it shows in their success.

The main stable of the cast includes:
Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Denis O’Hare, Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Joseph Fiennes, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Lizzie Brocheré, James Cromwell, Frances Conroy, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, Michael Chiklis, Finn Wittrock and Angela Bassett amongs others. And as you can tell this is list of talented actors that really do all know how to get the best out of all of their characters, and it really does show. Jessic Lange is esily the shining star amongst the group, as every characters she has portrayed has been different yet equally devilish and hauntng when on the screen.

This is a show you need to see if you havent, and there is no-no better time to get on board than now at the beginning of its creepiest season yet.
