Wednesday is nearly here- and this week we get a host of big titles from Batman and the Avengers to Axis and Sex Criminals this week is loaded with great books. But here’s what I think you should be reading this week.
Avengers and X-Men: Axis #1 (of9)
Official Synopsis: ACT I: THE RED SUPREMACY
The Red Skull has exploited the gifts of the world’s greatest telepath to broadcast pure hatred across the globe. Now, born of the murder of Charles Xavier, World War Hate has begun. Tony Stark discovers a secret truth that will upend not only his life, but also the lives of everyone he cares for. Can The Avengers and X-Men finally unite? Would their combined strength be enough to hold back the darkness of the Red Onslaught? Magneto murdered the wrong man, releasing the greatest evil the Marvel Universe has ever known. Now Rogue and Scarlet Witch are all that stand in its way
Why its a Pick: The Red Skull has been on a real roll since he was re-introduced in tha pages of Uncanny Avengers by Rick Remender and that all culminated last week with his death and rebirth at the hands of Magneto. I’m expecting this to be a huge event that truly delivers, think AvsX but with a much darker story and some much larger ramifications for the entire marvel universe. Onslaught has always been a great villain, and with the Redskull in the driving seat of Onslaught this is bound to contain a huge chunk of action and some great character work.
Amazing Spider-Man #7
Official Synopsis: Peer over the EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE! Spidey teams up with Ms. Marvel in a high-flying (stepping in Kamala’s case) adventure! Who is Spider-UK and what does he have to do with SPIDER-VERSE
Why its a Pick: Amazing Spiderman has been great since Parkers return, and Miss Marvel has also been great since Kamala took the reigns of that title so together this issue is bound to provide some good action and some great conversational piece between the two. Add to that the fact were now on the downward slope towards Spider-Verse and everything relating to the Spider-Man universe is must read ahead of the upcoming event. Ohhh and Dan Slott has the writing duties as ever, and you don’t get bad issues from this man involving the Spider.
Official Synopsis: Across the globe, century after century, men and women were burned, drowned, hanged, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted, and murdered for witchcraft. None of them were witches. They died protecting a terrible and hidden truth: witches, real witches, are out there. They are ancient, elusive, and deadly creatures that are rarely seen and even more rarely survived. This October, superstar creators SCOTT SNYDER (SEVERED, Batman) and JOCK (SNAPSHOT, Batman) unveil WYTCHES, and introduce you to a world of unimaginable horror in a special EXTRA-SIZED FIRST ISSUE
Why its a Pick: This is brought to you by the man who has been writing some of the hottest comics in the industry for a while now in the form of Scott Snyder, and if you’ve ever read his work on American Vampire you know he can handle a dark horror comic. The premise for this book sounds great, and the artwork is sure to be great as Jock is easily one of the top alternative artists in the industry and ever panel he produces is wonderful to view and his work really suits a dark story.
Book of the Week
As much as other titles have me excited this week the chance to see Jock and Snyder together is too much to pass over.
