Comic Book Picks 17September ’14

cropped-comic-picks-header.jpgWednesday is nearly here- so that means its time to get excited about this weeks new batch of comic books hitting the shelves. And here are my top recommended reads and purchases for the week.

Oddly Normal #1

Official Synopsis: Meet Oddly Normal, a ten-year-old girl with pointed ears and green hair—a half-witch who will be the first to tell you that having a mother from a magical land called Fignation and a father from Earth doesn’t make it easy to make friends at school! On her tenth birthday, she blows out her cake’s candles and makes a disastrous wish. Now, Oddly must travel to Fignation to uncover the mystery of her parents’ disappearance.

Why its a Pick: Otis Frampton has featured on my blog for a while, or at least his artwork has, as im a huge fan of the art styling that he uses so the chance to get hold of this in the form of a new #1 comic book series is too much to pass up. His style is unique and clever and should make for a great 32page read, and when you include a story that sounds intriguing and is different to the huge batch of superhero comics out there this week that’s only going to help set this book apart. I’m excited for this book more than I thought I would be when it was announced.

Amazing X-Men #32

ANXM32Official Synopsis: Dimension-hopping is something of an X-Men rite of passage and it’s about time the All-New X-Men took the plunge!
I guess you don’t always have to travel Miles away to visit a new place… But will the web they find themselves tangled in Ultimately bring about their end?

Why its a Pick: Bendis is now mixing the regular universe and the ultimate Marvel universe- what could there be to not like about this? The last time this happened we got a fairly decent spiderman crossover, that provided plenty of laughs so add Miles Morales to the young and out of time X-Men and this story should be a real treat to follow, whether it will make logical sense or not im still not sure but I have faith in Bendis to give us something exciting and fresh.

Avengers #35

Official Synopsis: IN 8 MONTHS…TIME RUNS OUT!

Why its a Pick: The Avengers title has been on a whole since ‘Avengers through time’ began and I don’t see this stopping anytime soon, especially given that the cover for this book got me excited months ago. The cover features old man Cap, Hulk, Captain Falcon, Superior Iron man and Unworthy Thor all of whom have yet to reach these timelines in their own titles yet we get a glimpse at the future here, and that has to be worth a whole lot.

Pick of the Week:

Otis Frampton steals the spot this week- im just so excited to see how this one turns out.
