Every Wednesday the new comic book hits the shelves and the digital market, and with so many titles it can be hard to work out what you should read regularly and what’s worth a try. Well here are my comic book picks for the week.
The Fade Out #1
Official Synopsis:Hollywood – 1948. A noir film stuck in endless reshoots. A writer plagued with nightmares from the war and a dangerous secret. An up-and-coming starlet’s suspicious death. And a maniacal Studio Mogul and his Security Chief who will do anything to keep the cameras rolling before the Post-War boom days come crashing down. THE FADE OUT is the most ambitious series yet from the award-winning Noir Masters. Bonus: This 40-PAGE FIRST ISSUE features more story pages, as well as exclusive back pages articles that are only in these single issues!
Why its a Pick: Anything that is done by the amazing team of Brubaker and Phillips is well worth a look. With the hide success of their previous collaboration’s how can you not be excited by what appears to be another step into the superstitious area of the recent Fatale book, the story seems interesting and you knows that Brubaker will give you great characters and Phillips will deliver on the artwork, so this is a detonate must.
Original Sins #5
Official Synopsis: The Young Avengers’ battle with the Hood reaches its climax! The prime mover behind the Watcher’s murder confesses his own Original Sin! Plus, Everybody’s Got One! Find out the Original Sins and hidden secrets of dozens of other Marvel heroes and villains
Why its a Pick:Original Sins has been a decent summer event from Marvel, and this book has been a great read alongside, and hopefully should end with a decent climax- especially given the revelations so far in the story. If it wasnt for this being the final issue however im not sure its been great enough to make this list, so im putting alot of faith in this final issue. Dont let me down Marvel.
Dark Horse Presents Volume3 #1
Official Synopsis: Geof Darrow and Frank Miller’s Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot returns in this new volume of the award-winning, long-running anthology powerhouse Dark Horse Presents! Also in the 48-page tome of awesome comics: Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse’s Resident Alien, Brendan McCarthy’s Dream Gang, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Andy Kuhn’s Wrestling with Demons, Damon Gentry and Aaron Conley’s Sabertooth Swordsman, and David Mack’s Kabuki!
Why its a Pick: Dark Horse has always presented the best anthology book on the market, in my humble opinion, and their anthology has launched many a great character (Hellboy, Goon) so i see no reason why a relaunch of this title in a bigger format with more pages should be anything other than even more great tales than normal. This is a book that has me excited by a company that really does know how to do anthologies- I mean that is a great list of creators right there.
