Dynamite Entertainment, the comic book company behind new stories of pulp icons like Flash Gordon, The Shadow and The Green Hornet, announced yesterday that they’ve acquired the rights to The Spirit, the signature creation of the “Godfather of Comics,” Will Eisner, and plan to publish new material with the character.
In a statement reported by Comic Book Resources (CBR), Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Berucci said, ““Bringing ‘The Spirit’ to Dynamite is a dream come true…Actually, that’s not a strong enough sentiment. It’s a lifelong dream come true.”
Eisner, who the comic industry’s highest awards, the Eisners, are named after, created The Spirit in 1940 as the eponymous star of a comic book supplement distributed to major newspapers nationwide.
