Wednesday has almost arrived once more, and we all know that means it time for me to let you know which comic books I’m not only buying this week, but also recommending that you guys pick and try for yourselves. So let’s get this show on the road…..
The Squidder #1
Official Synopsis: This all-new four-issue series finds an old soldier from a forgotten war in a post-apocalyptic world that has left him behind. He was one of the last of the legendary Squidder Legions. Can a discarded relic with a death wish and a rebellious Squid priestess overthrow humanity’s tentacled alien overlords? Ben Templesmith returns to his roots to finally do the tentacle/Cthulhu-orientated book he’s always promised! The Squidder mixes action, horror, science fiction, and fantasy elements with a touch of Squidly destruction.
Why Pick It Up: Ben Templesmith! That should be enough said, as anyone who doesn’t find the visual art style of Ben Templesmith enough to buy his books doesn’t exist. Templesmith has always produced some of the darkest and most terrifying visuals in all of comic books as the sketcher lines and the limited colour palette really does make every panel look like its straight from your nightmares. Add to that the fact he is tackling mythical creatures/monsters and you know the book will have some great looking beasts that are Templesmith can deliver a good story, as some of his solo work has struggled- but nothing has been horrible on the story front yet and even if it was it’s still worth a but to just look at each panel.
Uncanny X-Men #23
Official Synopsis: Charles Xavier’s last will and testament is discovered.
But is something concealed within the pages that might be the X-Men’s ultimate undoing?
Why I’m Picking It: The death of Charles Xavier was a total shock moment during ‘Avengers Vs X-Men’ ans one that i thought would be undone, so that fact it hasn’t been makes this story arc truly intriguing. And the idea that something could be in the will that would harm the X-Men is also a great hook, I mean what could it possibly be? We all know that Xavier wasnt as clean-cut as he liked to portray, but surely his X-Men wont be punished. I’m intrigued to see what this means for Marvels mutants.
The Wicked and the Devine #2
Official Synopsis: Diabolically divine pop-god Lucifer is in trouble. She offers superfan Laura an unprecedented deal if she helps. It’s a bargain. A Faustian bargain, and they always turn out so well. Who knows who Laura will turn to fulfill it? We do. Clearly. It’s our comic. You can know too if you buy this fine pictorial narrative with your human money coins.
Why I’m Picking It: The first issue of this series was a great read with a really interesting and unique story to tell, and im expecting this issue to be no different. THe writing is top-notch and synopsis for this issue makes it sound like it should be another exciting read, so you can’t afford to miss the chance to get on board with this now while it’s still in the early days.
