Wednesday is fast approaching, and that means that theres a host of new comic book making there way onto the shelves. But whats out there this week that you need to read- well this week does see the return of one of mine and many others favourites ‘The Amazing Spiderman.’ However this isnt the only number 1 out there this week, or the only highly anticipated release, so lets get to whats worth your time this week.
Amazing Spiderman #1
This is easily the hottest and most anticipated comic of the week, and maybe the first quarter of this year. For the last two years Dan Slott has been writing a fully engrossing story featuring the ‘Superior Spiderman’ after the untimely and shocking death of Peter Parker (Surely it can’t be a spoiler by now!) and I have to say at the begging I was unsure and thought it would be reset quickly, however it developed into one of the best reads each month. However the time has come at Marvel to hand Peter Parkers return back over to Dan Slott and give him the reigns on getting stories told of his continuing, and restarting spell as the Amazing Spiderman.
Slott has handled his long running tenure on Spiderman with such grace and intricacy that i really cant wait to see how he handles the first full return of the man he took away from the masses. Add to this the writing talent of Christopher Yost joining the issue and the artwork of Humberto Ramos and this is surely a huge issue that no-one who loves comic books can miss- im thoroughly excited to get my hands on this one!
The official synopsis for this issue is as follows: The Greatest Super Hero of All Time RETURNS!
The world may have changed since Spidey’s been gone, but so has Peter Parker. This is a man with a second chance at life, and he’s not wasting a moment of it. Same Parker Luck, new Parker attitude. Putting the “friendly” back in the neighborhood, the “hero” back into “super hero,” and the “amazing” back into “Spider-Man!” Also returning: The recharged and reenergize ELECTRO!
Southern Bastards #1
This is a little independent book due for release this week- however due to its writer it has garnered some attention and i have to say im not surprised. Anything written by Jason Aaron is worth checking out as he has written some of the best titles of the last 7years including Scalped, so another creator owned project by him is exciting. Expect high levels of violence and social references galore in this tale, but above all else expect it have gritty realism that you cant help but read.
The official synopsis for the issue is as follows: Welcome to Craw County, Alabama, home of Boss BBQ, the state champion Runnin’ Rebs football team…and more bastards than you’ve ever seen. When you’re an angry old man like Earl Tubb, the only way to survive a place like this…is to carry a really big stick.
Black Science #6
This is one of my favourite new titles of the last 12months, as its such a great blend of science fiction, action and insane character development. Everything that Rick Remender is doing with this title is just right- he has a great mix of drama, tension and uber cool alien looking creatures that really grabs your attention and delivers stories and plot threads that you really feel you need to see through to the end. The artwork from Matteo Scalera is also brilliant and really adds to the look and the feel of the book as something that is distinct out there on the market.
The official synopsis for the issue are: Stranded in the most dangerous dimension yet, Grant McKay’s rage at his onetime boss boils over. Ignoring the chaos all around them, the two finally come to blows! Only one thing is certain: before the Pillar makes its next jump…one of them must die!
Thats it for this week- let me know what your planning on buying or what you read. Im always interested to know.
