Friday is upon us and that means that the new round of movie releases has hit full the local cinema’s and their all after your hard earned cash-so whats worth going to see this week and whats not? Well that’s what im here to tell you, so lets get this started. This weeks releases feature films from a slew of tiny studios, and then from Disney/Marvel- which will dominate the box office for sure.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This is without a doubt the film of the week- despite me loving the characters in the other big release- this one is just packed full of characters that have held my attention for longer and ive followed in a much more engrossed way. But aside from that this is the first big movie release from Marvel this year and is arguable the biggest sequel to see cinema screens this year, and brings with it a huge cast, budget and collection of stars.
The film stars Chris Evans, Cobie Smulders, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Frank Grillo, Toby Jones,Robert Redford, Hayley Atwell, Stan Lee, Dominic Cooper, Jenny Agutter and Elizabeth Olsen- which hints at our first glimpse of Scarlett Witch. This cast alone should be enough to get you excited to go and spend your hard earned cash on this- but when you add in the huge amount of superhero powers and immense action, your in for a hell of a movie.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from old history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.
The Muppets Most Wanted
The only other big release of the week that appears brave enough to go head-head with a Marvel movie is a collection of loveable puppets from my childhood that are making a much bigger comeback than I think people expected. This would be my movie of the week on any other week, as the characters are great, the muppets movie outings (except the muppets in space) are all hugely funny and well worth watching, but unfortunately unless your after a film for younger children this weekend I don’t see this doing great numbers at the box office.
However that doesn’t mean that it wont be a great movie, I fully expect this to deliver comedy in spades and have a story that is engaging enough to keep the audience. Add to this a huge host of cameos and the ever present satire that the muppets are famous for and i think everyone should enjoy this one.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: While on a grand world tour, the Muppets find themselves wrapped into an European jewel-heist caper headed by a Kermit lookalike and his dastardly sidekick.
